At Coalescence Health we believe we all deserve healing from the challenges of this life. We commit to caring for ourselves and each other in this journey and enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with various professionals and support each other in our professional growth.
Please take a moment and get to know one of our newer amazing therapists here at Coalescence Health, Ellen Henderson MS, LPCC.
What led you to become a therapist?
As a 16 year old having a tough time (as many 16 year olds do!), there were a few adults in my life that were amazing supporters, educators, and therapists. With their support, I was able to grow and find a life that I enjoyed living and a future to be excited about. I wasn’t much older than that when I decided I wanted to be someone like that for another person having a tough time.
What has influenced your work as such?
For several years before officially becoming a therapist, I worked in outdoor recreation and education. I summited mountains with teams, slept more nights outside than inside, stayed awake to tend fires or sit with a kiddo who was homesick, and cried tears of sadness and joy with people who were strangers just a week ago. That work led me to cross paths with people of all kinds and to share deep, profound experiences with other human beings in sometimes the most simple ways… you never know just how meaningful a piece of chocolate or silently sitting alongside someone can be! Inspired from these deeply human and connecting experiences, I hold great regard for the capacity, resilience, autonomy, and beauty in people. It is an honor to witness and walk alongside someone, even if for a short while.
What are some fun facts about yourself?
I lived on a sailboat for over 6 years before moving to Colorado. Home is where your dog is… I mean where the heart is!
If you weren't a therapist, what job would you have?
I would have loved to be an electrician or tradesperson! The outdoor and boating lifestyles sparked a serious passion for DIY and creating custom solutions for the problem at hand. I re-wired my entire AC and DC system while living on the boat, and I enjoyed learning other skills like fiberglassing and becoming a diesel mechanic. My brain just lights up when solving a practical problem!
